Send Function->Send an Instant Message
Nextalk has an instant messaging feature accessible from this Send button. Being in an
Instant Message conversation is different from being in a Call conversation in that when you
send a message, it goes to the recipient and leaves your desktop. (When you are in a call, you both see the
conversation as it is happening). The recipient can reply to your message and it will come back to
your desktop.
This feature allows you to also send text or email messages as we will discuss below, but to send an instant
message, of the available options on this screen, you need to select NTS Address and
Send as an Instant Message.
Enter the name of the person you wish to send an instant message TO.
More Help.
The options in this feature are:
Sending a message to an NTS address.
The NTS address is the user's userid and domain in the form of user@domain. Within your own network, it is not
necessary to enter a domain, just type the userid of the person to whom you wish to send a message. You can only send messages to users in other domains if you are linked to the NXi Backbone.
Sending a message to an email address.
Type in the person's email address (ie joe@nextalk.com).
If you choose this option, you will notice the options at the
bottom of the screen are greyed-out (not available). If you choose to send to an email address, the message will go to the
recipient's email box (it won't be an instant message).
NOTE: Be sure to include your return contact information in the body of the message, since messages sent to email through NexTalk are one way only (no reply possible).
If you have chosen the NTS address above, you will be able to send either an instant message or a text message.
Sending a message as an instant message.
If the recipient is logged in, a window will open on his desktop with your message in it. He will see this
message right away.
Sending a message as a text message.
The message will go into the recipient's NTS mail box to be read at his leisure.
You can customize the way your instant messages look by selecting colors and fonts in your
Preferences. The changes you make will only affect what YOU see, your recipient's screen's appearance
will be based on what he has in HIS preferences.

Demo of the Send function.
That's the end of the SEND discussion. Go back to the
Nextalk Tutorial Table of Contents to explore another topic.
